In a Rhythm Kids class, students explore rhythm by playing with music from around the world. Music Together® trained teachers lead dynamic classroom activities designed especially for early elementary children. The discovery continues at home with interactive Rhythm Kids videos, easily viewable in the Family Music Zone or the Music Together app. As they drum, sing, play instruments, and move to different rhythms, children naturally build musicality that helps them prepare for formal music lessons. Children learn complicated multicultural drumming patterns with a tried-and-true method, while developing new repertoire on percussion instruments, learning music-reading readiness, exploring movement and dance, deepening their vocal ability, and playing fun music games! Opportunities to solo, work in ensembles, and improvise can support social and listening skills, self-expression, and self-confidence. Grownups stay and play!
Families get a songbook and optional CD, digital access to the songbook and recording, drumming tutorials, and video play-alongs. Consider this the beginning step of instrument study!
Students should have their own djembe or hand drum for use at home and for use in class.

The Jaguar Rhythm is based on drumming patterns typically played in Bomba music from Puerto Rico, an interplay where the drummer attempts to follow the dancer's movements. We'll explore the interaction between drumming and movement ourselves with the song "Bailen niños." We'll sing, dance, and drum along to the lively patterns of "Ayiko, Ayiko," a welcome song from Southern Ghana. And with "Ala Dal’ona," we'll sing, move, and explore the unique 6-beat phrase of this Lebanese folk song. Best of all, we'll get to experience the joys of being a "Jaguar in the Jungle"! All 20 selections in this collection have been chosen and arranged specifically to support each student's music development.
